Dot Matrix synths

Don’t go trashing that Dot Matrix Printer you can someday turn it into a synth or turn several of them into your machine slaves as part of your robot orchestra as seen in the works of Sue Harding (Link from OddMusic List ) Scanners can be also used as musical instruments note this interesting video of HP ScanJet playing Fur elise (Hack A Day original story). Most of these projects look like they would have to have the note information hardcoded into the program in order to play. Unless there are some algorithms doing the number crunching and working quasi randomly. Couldn’t one just have a sample library of these sounds if they were serious about creating sequenced music? Or is the actual process of watching these machines perform that people are after? Maybe its one of those things that you have to experience first hand before you say to yourself, “Damn, I gotta get me one of those..”
